Hello, thanks for your response to the post.

There are a number of ways to get those films. Primarily, I believe there is no 'Greaser' film in general or titled. But the term refers to a series of films with that stereotype Mexicans, pretty much they were old west type movies.

You can get a great series of academics talking about the greaser films in the DVD "The Bronze Screen". Sometimes universities have that DVD.

Also if you investigate closely, you can find most of the silent films on the internet. Here is the link to the 1914 film "Bronco Billy and the Greaser".

Thank you and Good luck!

Thanks for the insightful post. I'm working on a video essay for a class in Mexican American Fine Arts Appreciation about the image of Latinos in film. I was looking for a representative clip or image of the silent film era "greaser" that I feel cemented this negative stereotype in the minds of Anglos that might not otherwise have internalized it. It's impossible - the films are either presumed lost or their whereabouts are unknown.

But this article has given me a lead on how I might demonstrate the stereotype's tenacity, and was an interesting read besides. So from one gringa who hopes the world will become a friendlier place - thanks.

Wow, a very thought-provoking piece.

It is a double-edged sword with Raza being more ubiquitous (a la "Latino in America"). With the increases in our population and presence, people are more inclined to opine on what we bring to the table, certainly not always in agreement.

Their resultant exposure to our cultural imagery and memes will rarely be without perversion in one form or another from the misrepresentation and disinformation of the history. How many gringos (or Raza, for that matter) have made a concerted effort to look into and appreciate what the Revolution was about and the resultant historical implications? It's simply less effort to remain at a safe distance and take artistic liberty with the imagery without context. I'm reminded of a joke from a George Lopez routine, explaining why kids today wouldn't survive a day with the way he was raised. "We grew up poor", he says, to which the kid responds "Why?".

Good piece, bro.
